Our river cruise boat arrived in Tournus, Burgundy, Southern France late afternoon on the 6th July,2016. Included was a guided morning tour of Tournus the next morning, and an optional afternoon tour to the Chateau de Cormatin, located 20km from Tournus. The Chateau is located: Rae du Bief, Cormatin 71460.

Our coach departed Tournus riverside early afternoon. A pleasant 45 minute drive through the countryside and we arrived at the impressive Chateau de Cormatin

The Chateau had been neglected for many years, however in 1980 it was acquired with the intent of restoration. A section of the chateau is open to the public, beautifully restored and well worth making the effort to view the beauty of this Chateau. Sections of the Chateau are for Private use and not open to the Public.

The following link will take you to the web page detailing the history of the Chateau and its occupants, well worth reading!

Approaching Chateau de Cormatin. From several hundred metres before arriving at the moat I knew it was a good decision to take this optional tour. The Chateau and grounds looked magnificent.!
